Hello world!

Oh and thank you for all the kind words. Lady luvs to here them when i tell her people have been asking about her!!

Lady is now 6 days post – op.  She is coming along well with few hiccups.  There are some terrible side effects to the meds (tramadol and deramax) but its better than the poor gal suffering from the bone tumor.  Basically, she stares out into the yard or falls asleep (kind of like someone with narcolepsy).  Also she is constipated.  However when she does finally go she is in great spirits and I still would not change my opinion of what I did to help her relieve the pain.

  1. 3 days post op. Today my dog Lady has managed 14 steps up and down (leash assisted). I am so in awe over the steps she has overcome in such little time. I keep pinching myself to try to wake me up from this nightmare. I know things could be worse like she could be an amputee and the cancer could be mestasasized into her lungs. The vet assures me that everything seems clear. Everytime i see her walking unassisted gives me another reassurance that this was the right things for her. F cancer!

  2. Nice job Lady. Don’t get discouraged if Lady seems tired. That happens. Please keep us all posted on her progress. By the way, what kind of puppy is Lady??

  3. well put~~ so, i’m a little confused (not unusual…) lady has lost a leg to cancer, but all else seems clear, if i’m understanding. sounds like she is really recovering if she’s managing steps after three days!!! way to go girl!! this is very scary, but this is an excellent place to start, as the support at tripawds is outstanding!! love to see some pictures of your girl, and to hear more of her story.

  5. Yes, Lady has lost a leg to bone cancer. She is 4 days post operation and she is managing to climb up and down a flight of stairs plus about 5 more steps outside. Then she has to go about 100 feet or so to get out back. this is the only place she has ever gone to the bathroom, so now this is still the only place to go. poor thing. However, this may help her recovery and build stronger leg muscles. I have been giving Lady Glucosamine for about 5 yrs. Maybe this has something to do with her being able to climb the steps in only 3 days. “She is strong like BULL”. lol She is so inspirational to me. She does have to stop halfway on her walk to the back yard but that is to be expected. I cant believe that I complained about the little cuts I get from working. Shame on me! Love you Lady! and she says thanks for the inspiration. From Lady, “I will post some pics as soon as my daddy figures it out”. lol

  8. glad to hear lady is getting better, those drugs are the pits and do make a girl act wacky!! as for the poop…it is a relief to finally get back to your ‘routine’, and like all else, eventually it will come, and come, and come… paws crossed for improvements everyday!!

  10. Hi Jessica and Lady,

Welcome to the Tripawds family! So sorry to hear of Lady’s diagnosis… but you have definitely come to the right place for information and support. The first 2 weeks post amp are usually the most difficutl… the pain meds, recovering from a big surgery, learning to balance on 3 legs (while doped up!)… But it sounds like Lady’s doing pretty well for just 4 days post op! Just make sure she doesn’t push too hard… Better to take it easy and give her body time to heal…

Looking forward to hearing more updates about Lady, and maybe some pictures too!!

  11. Yes definitly is the time to heal. Unfortunatly she has to manage steps. was worried that her sleeping too much i affecting her psyche. She perks up when she hears car rides!!!

  12. OK 25 days postop. Lady is officially off all her medicine. Yeah. Well except the choncrotin gravy mix which she has received for the past 5 or so yrs. She is doing so good. She is able to wear her harness now so I can help her use her strength on something other than the stairs. Her walks seem to be getting longer and her strength getting better. She does seem to still be uncomfortable while she sleeps at night. I think she gets up and changes beds quite frequently. (1 orthopedic bed and one cool mattress). She doesnt yelp or anything but she does stir. She started getting up on her fav couch again and she is rolling over on her amp side for belly rubs. Hope this is great signs for things to come. Thx everyone for getting us thru these tough few weeks!! I will update v soon!
